Florida Everglades
Collier-Seminole State Park
Message from the Park Manager
Thank you to everyone who has visited the park this past May for Florida State Parks month.
The park has a 6.5-mile loop trail as part of the Florida National Scenic Trail, constructed by the Florida Trail Association. Thanks to the “Alligator Amblers” Chapter of the Florida Trail Association, on April 27th, they completed a new bridge on our hiking trail. They braved the mud, mosquitoes, and rain, and had a successful workday constructing the bridge. Hikers will now keep their feet out of the creek while crossing Royal Palm Slough.
Fishing has been good, and right now is a good time to boat down the Black River to fish or spend the day. This river is in its natural state, and you can see it as the Calusa saw it centuries ago.
Work is ongoing in the park to remove exotic species of plants. Certain species of plants are very invasive and must be removed before they replace the native plants. Right now is the prime season to remove them, before the summer rains start. If you would like to help in this effort, please contact the park.
